Since the death of my dad in 2014, brother in 2020, and mum in 2024, I have become acutely aware of what a death-denying culture we live in and how inadequately we support those who are grieving. We do not know how to process our own or others grief.

Living Grief is my way of trying to address this and create space and support for something that will happen for all of us.

After the death of my brother, I was desperately needing some space to process my grief. I searched for some kind of retreat but couldn't find anything... so I created one.

With my background in counselling and wellbeing I wanted to find ways to normalise our experiences with loss and support people who are grieving.

I am also a funeral celebrant and am passionate about creating ceremonies and rituals that help people to express and move through their grief, while at the same time honouring the life of the person who has died.

For the past 20 years I have worked in education and wellbeing. I have been a Teacher, Pastoral Care Worker, Counsellor and Wellbeing Leader in schools across SA and VIC. In 2023 I moved into healthcare and became a Spiritual Care Chaplain. It is an immense privilege to support people at the end of their life, and this work has given me an even deeper understanding that grief needs to be held and witnessed.

Testimonials from my retreats

Being seen and heard – the healing and comfort and beauty that comes from shared pain, from grief being witnessed and others standing with you – the power and essentialness of storytelling, ritual and group laughter, and nurturing. Self compassion at its finest. I feel like I was home, with Tribe.”

“Bek your open, caring and welcoming energy was very much appreciated along with your willing and skilled exploration in setting up and leading such an opportunity for grieving Souls. Remembering and naming grief, what it felt like, the heaviness of each moment moving forward. This opened up the parts of grief that had still been pocketed away and perhaps hadn't found words before or been witnessed & supported... thank you.”

“It was the perfect balance of sessions and free time, with plenty of time for rest, community, communion, nurturing, and room to process. The different focusses covered a beautiful balance of different aspects of grief thought. I felt led well, and safe, to listen to my body, and there was a good amount of encouragement, and gentle guidance in new ways to see things, feeling all that came up, and honest reflection. Above all, the circle sessions were honouring and validating. Oh, so validating.”
